Why I'm Running

My family goes back generations in Halton.

My ancestors owned farmland in Central Halton just north of Burlington. I was born in Milton and grew up in Georgetown South. My dad, a factory worker on Armstrong Avenue, is still at the same factory he has worked my entire life. My mom, a hard-working former Director on the Board of the Georgetown Skating Club, sacrificed community for her family and career. My grandmother, a half-a-century resident on Mountainview Road who fought hard to protect residents against traffic from the bridge, took care of my ill great-grandmother for decades, teaching me resilience and the value of education.

I went to Silver Creek Public School, learning the value of my voice in Grade 5 Civics, sparking my love for public service. While a student, I organized the first student protest against cuts to education, and we won. I worked at local businesses to help support my family. I flipped blizzards at Dairy Queen, worked for the Town’s summer camps, and I came back from school every summer because I wanted to contribute to the town I love.

But, a lot has changed.

I grew up playing on our streets that once bustled with kids. Now, they are quiet, neighbours are distant, and our sense of community is fading. I used to walk the paths in the marsh behind the Gellert. Now, I watch as the farmland across from it makes way for growth. I met lifelong residents who told me this was the only town they know and love. Now, they are deciding whether they can afford to stay. I knew young folks who left town to study and work but always came back to the town they love. Now, young folks talk about moving away because opportunity lies elsewhere and parents can’t keep them forever.

It should not have to be this way.

I want to bring back the Georgetown that I grew up in, known for "small town living at its best."

That is why I am running to be your Town Councillor in Ward 4.

I will bring new perspectives to our Town Council, shaped by the community I have spent my entire life in. I will be ready on day one to take the torch on behalf of a new generation of leadership that understands what the future must hold. I will utilize my experience working as a community projects coordinator, a political organizer who volunteered with MPPs, and my education focusing on Canadian governance and policy that will allow me not to just be a community advocate, but a policymaker too.

Although Ward 4 includes it, Georgetown South has never been represented at the council table. Ward 4 deserves a councillor who understands both sides of it.

I would be honoured to represent my neighbours on Halton Hills Town Council, so I humbly ask for your support on October 26th. It’s time to move 4WARD in Ward 4.
